Paul Pogba scored from a penalty kick in Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Everton at Old Trafford. But the France international will breathe a sigh of relief that he didn’t miss the chance after the goalkeeper saved his shot.
Pogba in his usual fashion delayed his run-up to the penalty kick by taking over 10 seconds to strike the ball, and Jordan Pickford saved his effort. But Pogba was fortunate that the ball fell straight back to him and he was able to tap the ball into the net.
It isn’t the first time Pogba has missed a penalty from this circumstance, and United legend Gary Neville slammed the midfielder for not only his penalty style but for showboating during the game.
United were leading 2-0 and were comfortable gunning for the three points until Pogba cheaply lost possession in central midfield in the second half, which allowed Gylfi Sigurdsson to play Richarlison through on goal and the Brazilian was taken out by a rash challenge from Chris Smalling.
Gary Neville unleashed his fury on Pogba for his mistake.
“All eyes towards Paul Pogba,” Neville said during his commentary for Sky Sports.
“He’s messing around and showboating in the middle of the pitch.
“He waits and waits, he does a stupid little chip, then Everton are through.”
