Manchester United left-back Luke Shaw has put pen to paper and signed a new five-year deal with the club.
The 23-year-old has been in form this season and his form has been rewarded with a new five-year contract that will keep at the club till 2023.
Shaw has been one of United’s best players this season and has won the club’s best Player of the Month for two consecutive months.
Speaking about his new contract, Luke Shaw told the official Manchester United website: “Since I came to United, it’s been a whirlwind four years that have passed so quickly. I am very proud to sign my new contract and continue my stay at this great club. I want to thank everybody that has stood by me and shown me huge support – the management, my team-mates and the fans.
“I want to let everyone know that I will give everything I have to repay them and deliver success over the years to come. I’m still very young with a lot more to learn and I can’t wait to continue my progress under Jose Mourinho.”
Shaw has been brilliant this season and was voted United’s Player of the Month in both August and September by Reds fans.
Even Mourinho who has often criticised the 23-year-old in previous seasons have been very happy about Shaw’s progress this season.
Shaw scored his first senior goal in United’s opening game of the season against Leicester City, and Mourinho was just pleased with him.
“I am very pleased for Luke Shaw – not just with that [the goal] but he made one mistake in 90 minutes,” the boss said afterwards. “It was the kind of mistake where probably the linesman could help him and give a free-kick for us and resolve the problem.
“He was very good defensively, he was good with the ball, he coped physically well and he had a good pre-season.”
