A number of Manchester United players’ contract will wind up at the end of the season, but reports claim Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho will want the contracts of Juan Mata and Ander Herrera renewed.
The two players might not be regulars, but they have proven to be important to the squad at certain times, and reports claim they have a good influence in the dressing room.
Mata has chipped in with three goals and two assists across all competitions this season, and his most recent goal was a cute free-kick to begin Manchester United’s comeback from 2-0 down against Newcastle United before the international break.
Mata set a record for himself with that goal as no player has scored more free-kicks than Juan Mata since his Premier League debut in August 2011.
For Ander Herrera, the 29-year-old central midfielder has played in strange roles for Mourinho as he has been slotted into a three-man defence when asked, and last season he was given the tough task of man-marking the likes of Chelsea winger Eden Hazard, which he did with aplomb.
The pair can indeed play some bit-part role for the squad as the season progresses.
