Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has been under serious pressure this season as the club have had its joint worst start in the Premier League era after eight games.
United have already lost three games this season and have crashed out of the Carabao Cup as early as the third round against Championship side, Derby County.
Mourinho’s job was on the line according to reports, with rumours claiming that he would have been sacked had United lost against Newcastle.
United’s next game is against an in-form Chelsea side, but Mourinho didn’t seem to be under pressure as cameras caught him with a smiling face heading into Carrington training ground.
A number of players are due to return from international duty this week as the team prepare for a Chelsea side that haven’t lost this season in all competitions.
Before the international break, United produced a great comeback to win the game against Newcastle after going down 2-0. United eventually won the game 3-2 after scoring three goals in the last 20 minutes of the game.
Speaking after that game, Mourinho revealed he was pleased with the players’ mentality and commitment.
He said: “It’s the mentality. It’s the desire, it’s the commitment. As I used to say: nobody is important, only the club is important. This is not about me, this is not about the players, this is about the club and, in the second half, the players they gave absolutely everything. Nothing more to give.”
