It’s no longer news that Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho desperately wants to beef up the defence following United’s poor start to the season.

Mourinho was in the stands as Serbia beat Montenegro 2-0 in a UEFA Nations League fixture to watch Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic and Fiorentina defender Nikola Milenkovic.

A report on Italian media outlet La Nazione via Sport Witness claims Mourinho was impressed with the performance of the 21-year-old Fiorentina defender and asked Manchester United chief Ed Woodward to sign the young defender.

Mourinho reportedly wants the 21-year-old to join Manchester United in January and a bid of about €60million was reportedly submitted to Fiorentina.

However, United’s offer for the defender was turned down by Fiorentina. The report couldn’t confirm if Fiorentina turned the offer down because they’re against selling the defender in January, or that they feel they could get more than €60million in the summer.

Manchester United are reportedly considering returning with an improved offer.
