Before the game against Newcastle, Manchester United were yet to get a victory in four games in all competitions, and the pressure was piling on Jose Mourinho and his charges.
Mourinho’s job was rumoured to be on the line, and the Newcastle game was said to be his last if the side suffered a defeat. Interestingly, ten minutes into the game, Manchester United were already losing 2-0 as some poor defending cost the team.
It was looking like another bad day in the office for United, but a stunning comeback led by goals from Juan Mata, Anthony Martial and Alexis Sanchez in the last 20 minutes of the game led to a 3-2 win for United, sending the fans at Old Trafford into ecstacy.
However, one angry fan seems to have missed the action as he angrily left the stadium just before half-time.
The fan by name Dave Potts wrote on Twitter while the game was ongoing: “Enough. I’ve walked out of my only game in 7 of being a Stretford End Season Ticket holder, well before half time. This runs deeper than the manager. #Hearbreaking.”
His post went viral after the game and had been liked over a thousand times as fans took a dig at him for giving up on the club.
“Glad you missed the come back,” one fan wrote.
Another wrote: “Support is thick and thin, not just when you’re winning.”
“Try supporting teams in lower leagues without the silver spoon man u have,” another fan advised him.
Another fan questioned his loyalty by saying: “Honestly and you a fan???”
This isn’t the first time United have produced such a comeback in Mourinho’s tenure. Last season, the players showed zest to come from behind and defeat City 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium.
