Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho and United striker Romelu Lukaku have hailed Alexis Sanchez as a good professional following his winner in the 3-2 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday.
The goal against Newcastle was Sanchez’s first goal of the season.
“I would have wanted to have been in his shoes today [scoring the winner], but the guy is working really hard,” Lukaku told MUTV.
“I think he’s one of the most hard-working professionals I have ever seen and to give us the win, he deserves it and I am really happy for him.”
There has been rumours Sanchez had fallen out with Mourinho after he failed to make the 18-man squad last weekend at West Ham.
Mourinho played down such suggestions as he praised the 29-year-old after his winner against Newcastle.
“I think he is a good boy,” Mourinho said.
“A good professional who works really hard.
“He is not playing especially well, in some periods, but, when the team doesn’t play especially well, it’s difficult for players individually to perform well.
“Today, I think it’s an amazing feeling for him to score the winning goal in a comeback. That is nice.”
Manchester United have struggled for consistency this season and the win over Newcastle was only our fourth win in the Premier League this season.
