Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho signed Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal in January but the Chilean international has struggled to impress.
Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has revealed he was surprised when Manchester United signed Sanchez because he wasn’t needed at Old Trafford.
“We all know the qualities he’s got – he’s shown them at Arsenal and shown them at Barcelona. Two big clubs,” Scholes said according to The Sun.
“Barca are on of the biggest clubs in the world, one of the best teams in the world and he was great for them.
“It just hasn’t happened for him for one reason or another. Why? I don’t know.
“What he’s doing in training, what he’s doing behind the scenes, we just don’t know.
“It was a signing at the time I never thought we really needed, I thought that position was covered in Martial and Rashford.
“Obviously I thought he would bring quality to the squad but he hasn’t performed yet. Whether he’s fallen out with the manager or not, I don’t know.”
Scholes insists Sanchez is a quality player and believes the 29-year-old is trying his best to revive his fortunes.
Scholes added: “He looks like he is trying, again he looked like he was trying the other night.
“When you’re in a bad run of form, you’re confidence just – it goes.
“There’s times when you just don’t want to play, not don’t want to play, but you feel like you can’t kick a ball ten yards to another player.
“It might just take one goal, an ugly goal, a good pass to a player to score a goal and he might be off and running.
“I just hope he gets the chance to show his qualities because we know he has them.”
