Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho had a heated exchange with Paul Pogba before the start of training on Wednesday after the player posted an Instagram video of himself laughing during Manchester United’s Carabao Cup loss to Derby.
Mourinho wasn’t impressed Pogba posted the video on Instagram while his teammates were on the pitch against Derby.
Sky Sports cameras were nearby filming the open training session and former Premier League midfielder Danny Murphy believes Mourinho confronted Pogba on purpose in front of the cameras.
“Mourinho could have pulled him aside before training,” Murphy said. “The more I think about it, the more I think Mourinho has done it on purpose. I don’t think it is flippant – he is too clever.
“I spoke to people who work with Mourinho, and they eulogise about him and his attention to detail. He is always preparing things and knowing how he is going to deal with the press.
“All of a sudden he has become unaware of the press? People can lipread now. The more we talk about it I am convinced he has done that on purpose.”
It remains to be seen whether Pogba will continue being a Manchester United player next season following the latest confrontation with Mourinho. I really do believe Manchester United do not need all this right now with results on the pitch not matching expectations.
